NYSTD has meetings from September through April, which generally take place on the second Sunday of the month, from 12 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Yonkers Racquet & Country Club, Yonkers, N.Y. The programs include Teaching Sessions, Demonstrations, Lectures, Forums in which matters of interest to the Ballroom teacher are discussed such as business procedures and business-getters, matters of ethics, teaching methods and aids, party plans, etc. Members may request that certain matters be the subject of a forum discussion, just as they may request that a certain dance be featured on a program.
The December meeting is the annual Christmas party, a gala affair to which members may bring guests, with dinner, dancing to fine music, entertainment, prizes, novelty numbers, etc. The final meeting of the season is the annual Luncheon and Election meeting, with entertainment, general dancing and a teaching session.
Teaching demonstrations are videotaped and the videotapes are sold at a nominal charge to members desiring them.
NYSTD's monthly newsletter, DANCE WORLD, is mailed to each member together with the meeting notice. DANCE WORLD contains a review and summary of the dance demonstrations at the previous meeting, information on future events, reprints of newspaper and magazine articles and news of general interest to the Ballroom teacher.
At the invitation of a member, non-members may be invited to attend any session as a guest. For subsequent sessions, non-members are charged a fee of $20/session, which may be applied towards the membership application fee.
